The gîte is finished (proud wife moment)

Have I ever mentioned how totally brilliant and talented my husband is? Six months of hard graft and he has transformed what was a run-down, old-fashioned and absolutely filthy cottage into a chic and sophisticated holiday home. He has built new walls, installed a new bathroom and kitchen, and done loads of hidden bits and…

The dining kitchen

We have completely renovated the kitchen and dining area, and installed a new kitchen, new appliances and fully stocked cupboards with all the cooking implements you are likely to need. For al fresco dining, a BBQ is also available.

The living area

When this cottage was first built more than 200 years ago, it was used as the living accommodation for the mill owner. Over the years, it has been extended but you can still see many of the original features: the huge open fire; the stove and the sink.

The bathroom

As with the kitchen, the bathroom has been completely overhauled and installed with new appliances. Soft white towels and toilet roll are provided as standard for all guests.

The outside areas

La Petite Maison is located within the grounds of Moulin du Pont, an old watermill that was once used to mill the flour used by the local boulangeries. There is a large riverside garden with a small orchard, several barns and outbuildings, and a small island. Guests have access to their own private veranda that…

One year on: Brexit, bureaucracy and baguettes

Just over a year ago we threw caution and Brexit to the wind and packed our bags for France. Has it been everything we expected it to be? We were still smarting from the EU referendum decision as we loaded up the van with the few belongings we were taking with us to France. Did…

There is no shortage of drama in our house

I was just in the process of setting my out-of-office on my work email yesterday when Dennis came into the lounge looking very stressed indeed. “You are never going to believe what’s just happened,” he said. The heat expansion vessel in the gite had burst, causing water to flood out of the hot water tank…
